Make a joyful noise to God, all the Earth;
Break forth into joyous
song and sing praises!
Psalm 98
As Roman Catholics, we have a musical heritage that is the world’s
richest and most deeply spiritual. For 2000 years our music has
evolved as an extremely diverse and multi-layered art that celebrates
and encompasses many different traditions.
Music at Saint Agatha’s is inextricably woven into the liturgy.
Ritual music expresses our greatest joys and laments, our thanksgivings
and needs, and it gives voice to our journey as an intentional
faith community striving to follow Jesus Christ.
Music is our sung prayer not only at weekend liturgies, but also
penitential services, morning and evening prayer, school liturgies,
wedding and funeral liturgies, and other unique events throughout
the year. Acclamations, litanies, canticles, chants, ostinatos,
psalms, choral works, hymns, and instrumental music reflect our
diverse prayer in this beautiful parish home.
CHOIRS AT SAINT AGATHA
Through careful preparation and weekly rehearsals, the choristers
of Saint Agatha’s support our commitment to offer our fullest
and most enriching praise to God. We warmly welcome new members
throughout the year.
The Traditional Choir. These extremely dedicated individuals
rehearse on Thursday evenings in the Church from 7:00 – 8:30,
and sing weekly at the 10:30 liturgy. The repertoire ranges from
Gregorian Chant to modern works commissioned by Saint Agatha’s
from leading composers of the day. The music of composers such
as Bach, Britten, Faure, Mozart, Palestrina, Purcell, Tallis,
and Tavener are characteristic of the high quality of music offered
each week by this choir.
The Contemporary Choir. These committed choristers rehearse on
Wednesday evening in the Church from 7:00 – 8:30, and
sing weekly at the 12:00 liturgy. This eclectic group is often
joined by several gifted guitarists, double-bass, flute, and piano.
The parish is richly blessed by the gentle beauty of their joyful
music, and deep personal spirituality.
The Children’s Choir. The children’s practice and
performance schedule is available upon request. These beautiful
children bring light and joy wherever they go, and hearing their
beautiful musical gifts grow each week is an immeasurable blessing!
This gifted group strives to the highest musical levels. The children
will not simply repeat sounds, but rather, are learning all the
necessary skills to help develop their musical abilities. We thoroughly
enjoy the gifts they offer us today, and wait in joyful anticipation
to witness the gifts they bring to the parish as future young adults!
We as parish and staff are committed to the total support and fostering
of the individual child. Sacred music is a wonderful tool for self-
expression, creativity, and developing young spirituality and confidence
that will reap immeasurable future benefits.
